Sein island, Finistère Brittany
Learn more about photography
8 km from the Pointe du Raz, in the Iroise Sea, the Ile de Sein is part of the Sein Causeway. A very extensive and particularly dangerous area of reefs, crossed by often violent currents. Already in the 17th century, Louis XIV recognized that suffering the wrath of the Iroise Sea and thus offering few resources to its inhabitants, it should not be taxed. Dikes were built to avoid the destruction of the island as well as pebble beaches which act as mini ramparts against storms because the island is on the water and is frequently submerged during gales!
