Light on the Men Ruz lighthouse, Côtes d'Armor, Brittany
Learn more about photography
This pink granite lighthouse is standing in the middle of the sculptures formed by the erosion of the cooled magma combined with the effects of rain, wind, sea spray and salt. It is called MEN RUZ, which means "Red Stone" in Breton. It was the inhabitants of Perros-Guirec and Trégastel who made a petition in 1856 to request its construction, and thus indicate the pass leading to the port of Ploumanac'h in Perros-Guirec. The lighthouse we can see today was rebuilt in 1948, after the destruction of the original lighthouse (made of grey granite) by German troops.
